UGPTI
Project Details
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is interested in developing an Android application to determine road roughness. The current method of testing road roughness utilized by UGPTI includes renting a pathways van. This van is equipped with lasers, cameras, and onboard computers to accurately collect and determine International Roughness Index (IRI); which is essentially the roughness of the road. Renting this van can be time consuming and expensive. The goal of this application is to determine road roughness utilizing the accelerometer and GPS. The application would be used by UGPTI employees in ordinary vehicles instead of renting a vehicle like the pathways van. This solution is desirable for UGPTI to provide both an affordable and easily accessible option for determining road roughness.
